The upcoming 2013/14 season marks the end of Paavo Järvi’s successful seven-year engagement as Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester). He will continue to be closely associated with ‘his’ orchestra as ‘Conductor Laureate’. In the coming season Järvi and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra are continuing their collaboration on numerous projects, among others five programmes in the Alte Oper Frankfurt and at the Rheingau Music Festival, CD productions, a European tour and further guest concerts.

Paavo Järvi, who is Estonian by birth, has been Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2006. In these seven seasons he has achieved great success internationally with his orchestra, for example at the Proms in London, in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw which is steeped in tradition, in Vienna and on extended tours of Europe and Asia. He and the orchestra also received standing ovations on their latest large-scale Asian tour through South Korea and Japan in 2012 with the violinist Hilary Hahn - actually the orchestra’s ninth guest tour of Japan.

Paavo Järvi is currently working on complete recordings of all the symphonies of Bruckner, Nielsen and Franz Schmidt. Highly praised CDs which have already appeared on famous labels such as EMI/Virgin or Sony BMG include Bruckner's 5th, 7th and 9th Symphonies, Brahms' Piano Concerti with Nicholas Angelich as well as “A German Requiem” with Natalie Dessay, Ludovic Tézier and the Swedish Radio Choir, the Cello Concerti of Dvořák and Herbert with Gautier Capuçon (“ECHO Klassik” 2009), the Violin Concerti of Mendelssohn und Schumann with Christian Tetzlaff, a CD containing the Piano Concerti of Shostakovich with Alexander Toradze in addition to CDs with selected symphonic movements and the 2nd Symphony of Mahler as well as Hans Rott’s 1st Symphony. Furthermore a complete Mahler cycle is being developed for DVD release.

From 2001 to 2011 Paavo Järvi was Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He is presently associated with this orchestra as Conductor Laureate too. Since 2004 Paavo Järvi has been the Artistic Director of „Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen“. In 2010 he was named Musical Director of the Orchestre de Paris, and in June 2012 he was also appointed Principal Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra starting in the 2015/16 season.
